Thank you for vaccines!

When I was a little girl, 5 years old I woke up one day with a really bad headache.  I couldn't even get out of bed.  I remember my mom calling the doctor and he came to our home.  Back around 1960 doctors did that.  He immediately told my parents to take me to the hospital as quickly as possible, I had meningitis.  I have always felt very lucky and thankful to that doctor.  My parents took me right away, and all I remember is being carried through a lit tunnel in the hospital and then taken to a private childrens room.  It was very scary.  My mom stayed much of the time, but my dad had to help at home with my other three sisters at the time.  I remember getting a spinal tap and it was very, very scary and painful.  I lived through the infection which today is preventable with vaccination.  Thanks to vaccines, many children will not have to go through what I went through and other families will not have to go through what my family had to go through. When I think I could have gone deaf, blind, lost limbs or worse, died, I feel extremely thankful! I can't say it enough!
