I am a public health nurse. While working at a flu clinic in November, I was reminded about the importance of herd immunity by one family that came to my station.
A mother and her five children all lined up WITHOUT kicking and screaming for their pokes. She told me they never have any trouble getting needles because she is undergoing chemotherapy, and they all know they get immunizations to protect themselves and others. "They do it for me", she said. The first child sat down and while rolling up his sleeve said "it might hurt but it's worth it".
We never know what others are going through, people who we may run into anywhere in our daily lives. By getting vaccinated you are protecting yourself and others, like this mother.
